Paper on electrochemical formate separation by Sevgi published online
September 6th, 2022

A new paper by  Sevgi, who works both in our group and in the group of H. Burak Eral, has just been accepted for publication in Ultrasonics Sonochemistry. In the paper we optimize the fabrication of polyvinyl ferrocene (PVF) functionalized carbon electrodes for electrochemical formate separation. Reproducibly making electrodes that were effective for formate separation proved to be challenging in recent years. Sevgi has systematically investigated the fabrication process and due to her efforts we are now able to make electrodes that are effective for formate separation reproducibly.

When it rains it pours! Two papers from Simone and Andrew accepted for publication
July 14th, 2022

Two papers from Simone and Andrew have been accepted for publication on the same day! Simone's paper benchmarks the electrochemical CO2 reduction on commercial polycrystalline copper foils and show that microstructural variations between the foils have little effect on the electrocatalytic performance. The paper is published in ChemCatChem as part of a special NIOK institute feature. Andrew's paper is published in The Journal of Physical Chemistry C and describes a new DFT modeling approach to correctly classify CO2 reduction catalysts by product selectivity.

Effect of different alkali metal cations on the oxygen evolution activity and battery capacity of nickel electrodes in concentrated hydroxide electrolytes
March 23rd, 2022

A new paper by Andrea has just been published online in Electrochimica Acta! In the paper we investigate the effect of different concentrations of alkaline metal cations (Li, Na, Cs, Rb) in concentrated KOH electrolytes on the water oxidation activity and battery performance of nickel electrodes.

Perspective on Sn-Based Electrocatalyst Stability published online in ACS Energy Letters!
November 11th, 2021

A collaborative perspective paper where Marilia and Ruud, together with the ELCAT group in Antwerp, discuss the importance of stability of Sn-based systems for carbon dioxide reduction to formate has just been published online in ACS Energy Letters. We hope this accelerates research on the stability of these systems!
